Responsibilities, Mission and Purpose:
- Make recommendations on statutes, policies, procedures, or programs relevant to rights protection and advocacy for persons with mental illness.
- Identify needs of persons with mental illness and communicate them — along with recommendations for action — to the PAIMI Advisory Council Liaison or Board of Trustees of the DLC.
- Respond to concerns of persons in the community regarding the protection and advocacy of persons with mental illness.
- Advise DLC staff, PAIMI Advisory Council Liaison or Board of Trustees on priorities (goals) and policies to be carried out in protecting and advocating for the rights of persons with mental illness in the state of Utah.
- Complete a section of the annual PAIMI program performance report to the Center for Mental Health Services that describes the activities of the PAIMI Advisory Council and its assessment of the operation and quality of DLC PAIMI funded services.
- Work with the PAIMI Advisory Council Liaison, Board of Trustees, and staff to develop the annual prioritized goals of the DLC – particularly those targeting individuals with mental illness.
- Educate the community about the purpose, priorities, and activities of tile DLC.
Programmatic and Planning:
- Help to determine and monitor the DLC PAIMI funded programs and services.
- Participate in the development of short- and long-term strategic planning with the PAIMI Advisory Council Liaison, DLC Staff, or Board of Trustees.
- Ensure the effectiveness of the DLC’s PAIMI funded programs through review of the annual Goals and Objectives.
Representational:
- Develop and maintain a communication link to the community.
- Promote the DLC’s public image.
- Educate local communities about the DLC’s purpose, services, and activities on a regular basis.
Terms and Attendance:
- There can be up to 16 members of the PAIMI Advisory Council.
- The PAIMI Advisory Council will appoint a Liaison to the Board of Trustees.
- The PAIMI Advisory Council shall appoint new members by a majority of a quorum vote.
- The term of each member to tile PAIMI Advisory Council is three (3) years. A Council member is limited to three (3) terms.
- Members are expected to attend all meetings or give notice if they are unable to attend.
- Following three (3) consecutive absences per year, the member will be notified that they will be removed from the PAIMI Advisory Council.
