What is Order of Selection?
Utah’s Vocational Rehabilitation (VR) will be on Order of Selection (OOS). In circumstances, when VR is no longer able to serve all eligible clients, the federal government allows VR to implement an order of selection. This means that VR will be placing a number of eligible clients on a delayed status list.
Why is VR going on OOS?
VR is experiencing a rise in applicants and costs, and this has limited their ability to serve everyone who is eligible at the same time.
Why was I placed on the delayed status list?
Utah VR uses three categories in order to prioritize who receives services first when funds are available. You can find your category in your eligibility letter.
The three categories are based on:
- The number of functional limitations* caused by a disability,
- The number of services needed to achieve employment, and
- The length of time it will take to get a job.
Based on this information, clients are placed in one of the following three priority categories:
- Individuals with Most Significant Disabilities (MSD)
- Individuals with Significant Disabilities (SD)
- Individuals with Disabilities (D)
During the OOS VR will be closing two categories (SD and D) and moving those clients to a delayed status list.
What will happen while I am on the delayed status list?
VR will contact you every 90 days to check for any updates and provide resources from the community. You are highly encouraged to provide information on any changes in health, employment, address, number, etc. It is important that you maintain contact with VR to stay on the list and ensure that you do not have to restart the VR application/eligibility process.
When will OOS end?
VR does not have an exact date when they will be able to remove clients from the delayed status list. This will depend on available funding and staffing.
What rights do I have if I disagree with my classification or being placed on a wait list?
You have the right to appeal your VR Counselor’s decision regarding your priority category assignment. You may only appeal your specific priority category, not your placement on a wait list. You may also contact your VR Counselor to request information about appeal rights and the process. In addition, you can contact the Client Assistance Program (CAP) at 1-800-662-9080 for information and assistance.
