Urgent Legislative Update – SJR 7

Updated: 4 hours ago
Public Policy

A bill has been proposed to urge the Governor to take away the Disability Law Center’s designation as the Protection and Advocacy Agency for the State of Utah. This would mean the DLC would lose our federal funding and drastically limit our ability to help Utahns with disabilities. Additionally, without our designation the DLC cannot monitor or investigate facilities for suspected abuse and neglect.

We need your help! Please contact the Senate Judiciary, Law Enforcement, and Criminal Justice Committee Members and tell them to vote NO on SJR 7. What should you say? Tell them how the DLC has helped you or your family members, what the DLC’s services mean to you, or how you would be impacted without our services. You can find the committee members here (click on individual Senators for their contact information). Please also contact your own Senator and Representative to voice your concerns. Click here if you need help finding your elected legislators.

What else can you do? Short on time or need help reaching out, share your story with us! We need your support to help the legislature understand our role as the only non-profit that protects the rights of Utahn’s with disabilities. Share your story.

If you have an ongoing case with the DLC, your case has not been impacted and we will continue to provide representation.

Thank you for your continued support.
