Education

All students in Utah have the right to a free, appropriate public education designed to meet their unique needs. Students also have the right to the same educational opportunities as their nondisabled peers, and to be protected from discrimination by teachers and school staff. These rights apply to students statewide, in either public or charter schools, and are protected by federal laws including the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act.

The DLC helps students and their families enforce these rights by providing education and training, self-advocacy assistance in the form of consultations and self-help materials, and one-on-one legal representation for specific legal issues.
